No Swimming Allowed | Offscreen
One of the most popular recipes of Italian B-cinema were copycat versions of American blockbusters, spiced up with blood and sex while definitely made for a whole less money. “Mad Max”, “The Exorcist” and “Star Wars” all got the Italian make-over. Enzo G. Castellari used “Jaws” as inspiration for “The Last Shark” (“L'Ultimo Squalo”). Unhindered by a low budget, Castellari tries his best at set-pieces that are even more ambitious than those of the original film. In one scene, he even has the shark attack a helicopter in full flight! Universal however was not pleased by the flagrant plagiarism. They dragged the producer to court and won the case.
“The Creature Walks Among Us” is the third adventure of one of Universal's most mythical of monsters: Man Gill, also known as The Creature of the Black Lagoon! This last entry in the series - no longer filmed in 3D – allowed the creature to leave the water and get on shore!
The Last Shark
In a peaceful seaside town, a shark is threatening the tourist season: the politicians fail to react, the tourists get eaten and an old sailor tries to get rid of the giant fish. No – this isn't Spielberg, but a spaghetti version of “Jaws”!
The Creature Walks among Us
In this ultimate adventure, Jack Arnold's amphibious creation is still chased by unscrupulous scientists. After a freak accident, the creature developes the ability to breathe on land – to get its revenge on the men that hunt it!
