Zombies attack | Offscreen
This month, the zombies are ready to attack!
"La Rebelion de las muertas" ("Vengeance of the zombies"), with its female zombi-ettes, is a Spanish B-movie classic straight from the 70s. Featuring the highly-experienced, man-of-all-genres Leon Klimovsky in the director's seat and Spanish cult actor Paul Naschy, famous for his portrayal of werewolves and other sadistic creatures!
Peter Jackson's "Braindead" is truly "the goriest film in the history of cinema", and definitely marks a high point in the first part of Jackson's directing career, prior to his blockbusters "The Lord of the Rings" and cohorts. It is the absolute reference for 90s-era horror, a kind of non-stop zombie slapstick movie that ostensibly involved more than 3000 liters of hemoglobin!
Vengeance of the Zombies
London. A mysterious assassin is killing young women, who then come back to life through the magic of voodoo. A film that crosses all genres: giallo, zombie... and with a colonial subtext reminiscent of certain Hammer classics.
Braindead
A small, quiet New Zealand town in the 1960s is overrun by a plague of extremely aggressive zombies. They'll soon be the only inhabitants left in this idyllic corner of the world... which means they must be taken out by the most gory, horrific and hilarious means necessary.
