DOUBLE BILL: TRIBUTE TO HARRY KÜMEL | Offscreen
Harry Kümel will be at Cinema RITCS in person to present a double-bill of his cult film Daughters of Darkness and the spellbinding full-length film version of The Coming of Joachim Stiller.
THE COMING OF JOACHIM STILLER
A journalist observes odd events around town and gets letters, postmarked 1919, from Joachim Stiller. Who is this Stiller, and what does he want? Kümel's film of Hubert Lampo's magical-realist novel stirs foreboding, colourful characters and sly humour into an evocation of 1970s Antwerp at its most seductive and surreal.
DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS
Newly-weds check into an off-season hotel on the Ostend seafront, where their encounter with a Hungarian countess and her "secretary" exposes the cracks in their relationship. Kümel's sexy, stylish Belgian Euro-horror film showcases an iconic performance by Delphine Seyrig as the chic-est vampire you've ever seen.
