ABC NIGHT: JEAN-PIERRE BOUYXOU & CO
To tie in with the ABC exhibition at MIMA, Nova is publishing Superpositions, a collection of the censored publicity photos that once decked the façades of specialist cinemas in the 70s and 80s. This atypical art book will serve as the starting point for Offscreen to organise a "micro-evening" centred on Jean-Pierre Bouyxou,
For Offscreen, there will be a first "micro-evening" centred on Jean-Pierre Bouyxou, nonconformist personality and author of one of the Superpositions texts. As an iconoclastic filmmaker and actor, acerbic journalist, and scholar of exploitation cinema, Bouyxou has been contributing to grassroots counterculture for 50 years. Originally from Bordeaux, his first playground was Brussels, in league with Noël Godin, who described Bouyxou as his "ego checker" - appropriately enough, since Bouyxou is the creator of Georges Le Gloupier!
On the programme: seditious short films by Bouyxou and other buccaneers of the Brussels scene, shown in their presence, followed by Bouyxou's first X-rated film, a 1970s curio never before shown on the big screen in Belgium!
PART 1: OPENING & MICROBOUTIEK (06 pm)
Microboutiek is a distribution point for a variety of homemade or small scale production books, CDs, zines, DVDs, and other objects. You can browse our collection or give us your own creations, what’s inside is up to you. Come and have a look!
PART 2: FREEBOOTER SHORTFILM COMPILATION + Q&A WITH THE ACTORS AND DIRECTORS (06:30 pm)
Seditious short films by Jean-Pierre Bouyxou and other buccaneers of the Brussels scene, shown in their presence.
La journée de Monsieur Chose
Jean-Marie Buchet
BE, 1963, 16mm, sans dial, 12'
The everyday life of a serial killer on a stroll through Brussels; casually provocative.
Satan bouche un coin
Jean-Pierre Bouyxou & Raphaël Marongiu
FR, 1968, 16mm>video, sans dial, 12'
A black mass in the form of a cinematic merry-go-round, Satan bouche un coin revolves around Pierre Molinier, apostle of fetishism. Noël Godin makes a physical contribution to the film's credits.
Le sexe enragé
Roland Lethem
BE, 1970, 16mm, VO FR, 21'
Dedicated to the censor Velu, Le sexe enragé is primarily a call to exterminate the bourgeoisie, declaimed from his bed by Roland Lethem in the company of Monica Swinn, Belgian muse of exploitation cinema. Also featuring Noël Godin as a salacious priest, Bouyxou as a blind pimp, and Georges Le Gloupier's "virile member" in a final apotheosis with To Katinaki as a feline prostitute.
Grève et Pets
Noel Godin & Yolande Guerlach
BE, 1975, 16mm>video, VO FR, 14'
A proletarian revolt fuelled by a delirium of indecency, Grève et pets was shot in a factory in Soignies without the knowledge of its manager. The gloopy farce was a scandal in its day, with insane casting - including Jean-Marie Buchet as one of the "bidet scum" - and a palpably real final orgy!
PART 3: AMOURS COLLECTIVES + Q&A WITH JEAN-PIERRE BOUYXOU (09:30 pm)
Jean-Pierre Bouyxou
FR, 1976, 16mm>35mm, VO, 75'
Improvised over two days, Amours Collectives starts out as libertarian porn, but ends up more like direct cinema, in which the film itself functions as its own making-of! Witty, salacious scenes follow one after another, with the director more or less becoming the central character. Produced (barely) by Jean Rollin, with whom Bouyxou collaborated for several years, the only existing copy is held by the Cinémathèque Française, and this is the one being screened this evening, in the presence of Jean-Pierre Bouyxou!
