CÔTE D'AZUR | Offscreen
The Côte d’Azur is one of the favorite summer destinations of the Belgians – but many B-to-Z films are taking place there, too. Saint-Tropez inspired both pornographers as well as numerous – hilarious- comedies. Apart from the “Gendarmes” movies and “Les sous-doués”, there is also Max Pécas, the champion of the Saint-Tropez comedy. “Deux enfoirés à Saint-Tropez” is his second erotic-summer misdemeanor. Rather than being intentionally funny thanks to successful gags, it is the high Z-content that makes for an unwittingly comical effect. A unique experience on the big screen! With its magnificent black and white images, “Taste of Fear” distinguishes itself from the colorful Côte d’Azur movies. At the beginning of the 1960s, the legendary Hammer studios produced a huge vague of psychological thrillers. This film, strongly influenced by Hitchcock and especially “Les Diaboliques” by Henri-Georges Clouzot, was instantly one of the most successful examples of this lesser-known subgenre.
