OFFSCREENINGS 2026 | Offscreen
Under the Offscreenings banner, we present no fewer than 18 new and unreleased films, any one of which could be a cult favourite of tomorrow. Our lovingly curated line-up includes the tense Argentinian coming-of-age story The Virgin of the Quarry Lake; Ben Wheatley's hilarious, unhinged, semi-experimental Bulk; the wild and crazy Japanese horror-comic nightmare New Group, and Mark Jenkin's eerie time-slip mystery The Rose of Nevada. Meanwhile, Shortscreen presents a showcase for a selection of new and unconventional shorts.
BARRIO TRISTE
In the feature debut from Stillz, director of Bad Bunny music clips, four Colombian teenagers steal a camcorder and take us on a grainy journey into the meaningless of their bleak existence. It's a Dante-esque voyage to the gritty heart of a Medellín favela, with a Harmony Korine vibe and hypnotic Arca soundtrack.
ROSE OF NEVADA
A boat, long thought lost at sea, reappears in the harbour of a Cornish fishing village, where two young men will find themselves borne back in time to a more prosperous era. The director of Enys Men uses an almost Lynchian soundscape and the haunted gaze of actor George MacKay to paint a liminal, ethereal mystery.
MAG MAG
What begins as typical J-Horror, with schoolboys stalked by a long-haired ghost, soon veers into uncharted territory. Supernatural shenanigans, giallo-esque red herrings, a bonkers musical number and a deep dive into the outer limits of female desire merge into a memorable directing debut from a Japanese comedienne.
SUBURBAN FURY
Sara Jane Moore, a 45-year-old single mom from the San Francisco suburbs, was radicalised while working as an FBI informant in the mid-1970s, and tried to assassinate President Gerald Ford. Devor's documentary uses archive footage and Moore's own account to paint a portrait of an era full of conspiracy and contradiction.
A USEFUL GHOST
When the ghost of March's wife Nat embeds itself in a vacuum cleaner, his family disapproves of his relationship with a household appliance until Nat makes herself useful in all sorts of ways, including political ones. The charming, whimsical humour draws you in - before the film lets fly with a powerful sucker punch.
