The Woman in Prison film (WIP) is an exploitation movie that takes place in a women's prison, populated by the most dangerous, sexually active and socially maladjusted female inmates. The formula was a real hit in the 70s amongst drive-in movie patrons eager for sex and sensationalism. Since then, the genre has branched into several variations on the theme, for example WIP films set in exotic locations.
