Urban Serial Killers | Offscreen
Major U.S. cities are often the perfect backdrops for movies about serial killers. These vast, dehumanized urban jungles become ideal hunting grounds!
"Night School" tells the misdeeds of a serial killer with a penchant for decapitation running loose on the streets of Boston (home of "The Boston Strangler"). This is a classic American slasher with roots in Italian giallo. "Night School" is also one of the rare slashers to feature the classic black-leather clad transalpine assassin.
"Fear City" takes place in New York (home of "The New York Ripper"), Abel Ferrara's favorite city and the ideal hunting ground for a serial killer who targets strippers. The film marks a turning point in the director's career; after the successful underground cult hits "Driller Killer" and "Ms. 45", he opens up to a wider audience without getting trapped in the conventions of mainstream cop movies.
Night School
A police inspector investigates a series of gruesome decapitations of young women, all students of a night school and victims of a black-leather clad, masked motorcyclist. A typical 80s slasher, disturbing and hilarious at the same time.
